<<And we know the difference between G*'s charges to them and the suggested retail price allows for very attractive profit margins to the retailers. I suggest that's a critical difference between G* and Inmarsat, AMSC, et. al.>>

That is one thing I have never understood. If the wholesale price is $.47/min, why the 150%-200% markup for retail? It seems like there is much room to cut back on the retail price and still make a profit. I would think a company like Airtouch would sell the service under one of those familiar cellular calling plans that include 30 or 60 minutes a month of airtime.

Dear RS: Good point regarding the 2nd generation MSS Geos like Thuraya and ACeS. I had pretty much ignored them (perhaps to our mutual peril) in the previous discourses because, well, they don't exist yet and I've been focused on racking my head over how Globalstar/Iridium (and maybe ICO) are going to just get to break even in the market of what exists here and now... With respect to furthering your thoughts of what is to come: wouldn't there also be future competitive threat from the likes of Ellipso, MCMI, et al -- the 2nd(?) generation LEO voice players? I have not spent much time other than perhaps gaining name familiarity of these 2nd gen players and would appreciate any insights you'de have to their "play" in this space (pun not intended).

Best regards,
Geoff
