Michael - <AMD had the MHz lead with the K6>
Only for a couple months and only in name. The K6-233's were hard to find and soon eclipsed by PII-233 and PII-266. In fact, I think a lot of people held back from buying the Athlon because they thought of the CuMine as another PII which would eclipse the Athlon. When they see that Intel's "leapfrog" only gets them to parity with AMD, they'll want to buy the Athlon, figuring that the next advance will be coming from AMD.

Other than that, I agree with everything you said. The roles are now reversed. Intel's MHz lead will be brief or even non-existent, and FPU performance will certainly be inferior to AMD.
