I think right now that's mostly GMA, with conversion to mostly CDMA probably over the next 2 years. There are two other guys that are in CDMA, MOT and one other, but they only use the chips internally.

PS you can probably get a lot of CDMA data from researching the QCOM and DSP threads.

Don't know that I can give you exactly what you asked for...

Handset growth rate, and Handsets sold/year I have to shrug... I do know that the subscriber growth rate through June was 171% per year, reaching a worldwide total of 35 million back then (this rate is probably rising since then...). I also can state that Qualcomm sold 11 million MSM (mobile station modem) chips back in the third quarter, and are commonly understood to have about 90% of the worldwide chip market at the moment. That would put total worldwide production at something like 12+ million chips (per quarter) back in the third quarter. Qualcomm reports earnings on November 2, so that should give us updated numbers on ASIC sales...

As for costs, I've sometimes seen ASIC prices mentioned, but I don't recall the numbers off the top of my head.

Ron,

Some updated information post QCOM's latest quarterly statements...

Annual sales of CDMA handsets this year around 40 million. Management estimates around 70 million next year.

Not too shabby a business for LSI to be getting into...
