Found the press release (8/31/99) re: the LU-SEBL alliance. This is an excerpt.

"In the first part of the planned multiphase technology integration effort, Siebel Systems and Lucent will integrate Siebel Call Center and Lucent's CentreVu® Computer Telephony software. The solution, which will be available in the third quarter of 1999, will provide seamless computer telephony integration applications to help call center agents work more effectively and deliver better service. It will provide agents with timely access to business and customer information at their desktop; allow them to control their telephone through their PCs for more efficient calling; and help call center managers monitor the effectiveness of their operations by providing real-time performance data."

So, it certainly appears that LU has made its choice for call center technology and that is not to own it. Of course, that choice was made before all of the recent activity. We'll see if they follow suit.

Turs,

Of course, if we look at what CRM is morphing into, with companies like Vignette for example, SEBL has a ways to go to truly become a full solution with a competitive offering across the board.

Using Vignette, Rubric and others as examples, the marketing modules of the leading front office companies apparently are not nearly as robust as the specialists' offerings.

I don't know the details about the partnership with Lucent.
