Microsoft sets Win2k "retail" release date
First, laurel wreaths to all the folks who contributed on this. "Officials" have reportedly announced that Win2k will hit the shelves on February 17th, early next year. Needless to say, much has been made of the numerous heart-wrenching delays of the mega-release. What has saddened me personally has been the lack of distinction from information sites between the retail release date, and the release to manufacturer (RTM) date. As my inbox has shown, many folks were still expecting a retail release sometime in 1999 -- an expectation that was discarded many months ago. In case it wasn't clear, the RTM date marks the closure of product development, and is the date I happen to have my eyes on ... which should still be sometime in '99, as RC3 should be out around Comdex. -Panders
