Yes, i know, you were just using the label the way the pointy-heads use it. But we shouldn't let them get away with it, it is a misuse of the word as originally coined. Not that i'm into etymological correctness or anything, e.g. i refuse to use the word 'fisher', it is perfectly adequate imho to use the adjective 'lady' to modify 'fisherman' when appropriate.

Just goofing around with our favourite wsp critic ... I'm sure he's seen The Light .... they say there's one in Moose Jaw now -g-

I believe that the Ethiopian in Acts 8:26 had been studying the Bible for quite some time before this particular day. The reason I believe that is because :

1. He is at Chapter 53 of Isaiah. So he is a good way through a book that very few casual readers would bother with.

2. The emphasis in those parts of the world even to this day are on "the teachings of Moses" so it is highly unlikely that this would be the first book anyone would have directed him to read first.

3. The question he asks " Does the prophet speak of himself or another " Is a very very deep exegetical question.

Compare Acts chpt 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Here Peter quotes the Psalm of David and says it is about Jesus and not David himself. See the later proof he makes:

Acts2:29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

Here Peter proves David could not have spoke of himself BECAUSE he did see corruption and in fact they all knew where he was buried at that time in history.

After Peter proves that David was a Prophet and was speaking of "another" then He could show them Jesus in the Psalms :-}

I do not believe that we find God. I do NOT believe that men sense any VOID WITHIN... I believe the Bible teaches us that God "finds" US - after all it is not God that is lost but US.. Look

Romans 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

And look at this verse:

Romans 10:20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

Trust me I did not "feel" some void in my life nor was I looking for God as a matter of fact when the Lord started sending the Christians into my path to bare witness to His truth I was a horrible person to try to witness to... I fought with them so hard and long they were pained to speak to me. The Holy Spirit however had other plans for me because I was one of Christ's Sheep and called according to His purpose before the world began.

2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

I believe that all of God's Elect were chosen before God ever created man. Look :

Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

God promised to send His Son before he created the world.

Jesus has been given a people that WILL COME !!!

John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

His sheep MUST COME.

John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

They are called sheep "BEFORE they HEAR"

Also Jesus said that he did not die for everyone :

John 10:15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

He does not say he will lay His life down for the Sheep and the Goats.

The SHEEP MUST HEAR but the GOATS CAN NOT HEAR :

John 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

If you can HEAR Jesus it is because He has blessed you eyes and ears.

Matthew 13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

Proverbs 20:12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them

People are not saved because they FOUND JESUS ...

Galatians 4:9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Look up the word "us" and "usward" it does not mean everyone.

I guess I do not see a "silent cry" I do see the work of God on the Ethiopian and that being over a period of time before and after God sent Philip to preach to Him about Jesus. Remember there was no new testament for quite some time after Jesus Rose. I see God sending His servants to preach the word to His elect and this Ethiopian fellow was one of them.
Psalms 65:4 Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.

Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

I believe no one can fully appreciate what a Glorious Gift Salvation really is until they understand this. The Flesh wants to take some part of the credit for salvation but it is 100% the Finished Work of Jesus " It is Finished "

P.S. I am going to post this note to the public as well..
