I was thinking Globalstar and Airtouch might have some deal going here - Globalstar has a lot of excess capacity right now, ATI would certainly not mind signing up a bunch of mexican-american customers. Airtouch announced this at the same time as their Globalstar service is coming on line.

Yes, I agree that at published prices it does not make sense to do it that way and may never make sense for calls leaving the US.(but for now there could be a special deal) This is a great way to trial the technique though, and for calls originating and terminating in other countries it just might be very economically sensible if the technique works. In essence, it's a way to use the satellite system without satellite phones just regular cell phones. It's an arbitrage play essentially and could be a way to use a lot of excess Globalstar capacity initially without ever lowering the cost of regular satellite service until the demand for regular service takes up some of the slack. Food for thought anyway.

Regards, Dave

Been following the story for quite some time and noting the current stock price, starting to wade in... here and LOR. For me there is one idea [couple of questions] I have for anyone who would know that may be very important [IMO] to the business plan:

As time goes on can these phones be made smaller and better [with the same satellites] as the technology gets better? Is this Qphone with 'added antenna for real, or someone speculating.

Thanks in advance... great thread, good luck.
