Uh oh. I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that Len and Jean side with me that EMC is a gorilla. The bad news is that I can no longer say that virtually everyone I greatly respect disagrees with me. Since Jean and Len agree with me, I'm respecting them even more. :) --Mike Buckley

Jean, I think we disagree about EMC switching costs, but if you have implemented EMC you have a better knowledge base than I. So educate me, please. Yes, EMC software is proprietary, but is it not interfacing with servers and apps using standards-based protocols (NFS, CIFS). Thus, ignoring the benefits of EMC software for the moment, is not switching away from EMC fundamentally as easy as copying the files from the EMC server to another server. Programs do not have to be modified.
