There is a very interesting article in the October 25 Fortune magazine on Nokia. One quote from the article that caught my eye...

"To Nokia's, and everyone else's, surprise, The ITU's (International Telecommunications Union) vision is coming into focus. With the exception of some big US operators, such as AT&T, the industry is coalescing around a technology called CDMA. When standards reach their final form this October, Nokia believes that instead of the confusing multiplicity of digital standards that exist today, the world will have just three: two forms on CDMA (which operators now on GSM will adopt) and a third standard called EDGE. Fewer, more uniform standards will make it far easier to build a phone that works everywhere."
