That's what they "should" do...
I think that we won't have to wonder about this much longer.

I agree with that idea. People who want the FASTEST of the fastest are usually willing to pay. But AMD lowered the prices of all their Athlons, so I don't see that happening, IF the 750 comes out this year. Maybe they will do it with the 800, IF that also comes out.

RE <<I agree that the goal for AMD should be maximizing 4th quarter revenues. But if CuMine 733 quantities are as low as I expect them to be, AMD can introduce the 750 without reducing demand for the 550 to 700 chips. Here's how -- rather than dropping prices on the 700 MHz and lower chips, set the 750's price ABOVE the 700's at $1,000.>>>

This would be a great way to go assuming that AMD has enough 750's to go around. However my earlier point were not just about the price of the unit but the nos. of units sold as well. There is always going to be a segment of the market that wants the biggest and fastest and its those buyers who will jump from the 700 to the 750 right away. And I believe that a good marketer wants to limit how fast a product becomes "stale" and results in an inventory overhang.

And I would suspect that AMD marketers are not real worried about the speed freaks jumping over to the 733 cumine because the Athlon has a sort of legend already built around it re its ability for speed and overclocking. In fact I think AMD should jump to the 800 if manu. permits and bypass the 750 altogether.

But what I find interesting about your proposal (and this is by no means trashing you) is that it hasn't occurred to anyone that AMD may have considered this and countless other approaches before deciding on what would be THE AMD approach. I have got to believe that AMD knows more about what's going on the cpu market than we do. And therefore making the decisions that best position it for success.

Its really weird....the intc and the AMD longs on this thread believe that intc can do no wrong until proven otherwise, and the two longs think that AMD can do no right until proven otherwise. Well things do change once in a while and it could be that AMD now is doing most things right.

Mike's a great guy but unless he has been made sales manager for intc, I could not take his comments as fact(no offense intended Mike). I am sure all of this stuff will be more clear in the next couple of weeks. Remember sanders will be giving guidance to the analysts soon.
