Oh, what I'm saying is we see this rumor mill thing or some expert espouse something that isn't true, such as with TYC. Never the less damage is done and it may take a few weeks to stabilize things in some cases.

You are right, CSCO is in the quiet period. Saying less than 21 words in response to rumor because you are rather gagged going into the earnings conference doesn't really allow the company to defend itself with max vigor IMHO.

As for an example, you may remember a phony message being posted on Yahoo regarding a cellular company I believe. CNBC did pick up the story and only served to amplify it, as they attributed the price movement to the yahoo message board post which only caused more. In short, an employee of the company signed on under an alias and posted the message. Bottom line, bogus message, CNBC amplified the message, 30% change in stock price in a short period of time.
