And now the bad news. Tom's Hardware Guide sees no real performance difference between Coppermine on an 820 chipset w/ RDRAM and Coppermine on a VIA Apollo Pro 133+ chipset w/ PC133 VC-SDRAM:

However, I personally feel that Tom Pabst has acquired a very anti-Intel bias as of late. Anyone reading his recent articles will easily pick up on this bias. Therefore, take his words with a large grain of salt.

Re: we have nothing but positive things to say about it (rambus)...

sharkyextreme.com (the benchmarks start here)

How kind of sharky's. Take a good look at the benchmarks, particularly 667 with rambus, 700 with PC100, and 733 with rambus. There is virtually no benefit from rambus. None. The BX board, clock for clock may even be a little faster in some cases - using 100MHZ ram. PC133 adds about 5% to PC100 performance and sells for the same price as PC100 (half the price of Rambus). Intel will have a PC133 chipset for coppermine out in about 90 days. Now we all know why.

Coppermine is a meaningful improvement over katamai, Rambus is useless.

Those benchmarks are pretty amazing, I would have expected it to require PC133 to match PC800 rambus, but PC100 is evidently enough. Imagine how DDR266 will compare to rambus.
