The story on Yahoo! is that the Taiwan quake is a "concern" for Q4. The statement seems similar to Dell's warning that it "may" affect earnings. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday October 25, 2:06 am Eastern TimeHewlett-Packard says Taiwan "concern" in Q4 SINGAPORE, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Taiwan's September earthquake has affected Hewlett-Packard's personal computer business and Taiwan is a ``concern' for the company's fourth quarter, the firm's chief executive said on Monday. ``Taiwan is a concern for us in the fourth quarter,' Carly Fiorina told a news conference. ``When I talked about the quake to analysts several weeks ago we thought it would have an impact on our supply chain in the fourth quarter,' Fiorina said, adding that Hewlett-Packard's fourth quarter ended at the end of October. ``But we are also now very careful in monitoring whether there is an impact on memory, which extends beyond our PC business,' she said. Taiwan was struck by a massive earthquake registering 7.6 on the open-ended Richter scale on September 21. The country was subsequently hit by a series of big tremors in October, the latest on Friday, which measured 6.4. Fiorina said she was unsure of the impact of the quakes in mid-October on Hewlett-Packard's operations in Taiwan and did not know if the ensuing quakes had further aggravated the situation. ``I do not at this moment know what the additional impact, if any, of the second and now third earthquake has been, and we will continue to monitor that very closely,' she said. Hewlett-Packard reported a fiscal third quarter profit that surpassed analysts' forecasts with net earnings of $853 million in the quarter ended July 31, compared with $621 million in the year-ago quarter.
