DRAMs to end year with 30% sales growth, says research firm

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Despite a temporary setback in the second quarter this year, worldwide DRAM revenues are expected to continue a strong recovery and reach $18.2 billion in 1999, a 30% increase over 1998 sales, predicted market researcher In-Stat here.

In-Stat's latest forecast calls for strong DRAM revenue growth through 2003, when the memory segment will reach $83 billion. The research firm also noted that the historical four-times density growth per chip is shifting as the mainstream 64-megabit generation begins to give ground to the new wave of 128-Mbit DRAMs.

In 1999, revenues from 128-Mbit DRAMs will climb to $1 billion, In-Stat predicted.

Gene,

Re: Dell also announced plans to offer Dell Precision WorkStations in the future based on the Intel 840 chipset.

A little puzzling, isn't it? I'm waiting to hear the outcome of the meeting in San Jose at 8:45am PDT to see if that means anything or not.

Take care, jack
