Things can be sacred to someone without being religious- if one takes the "profoundly important" or " something approached with reverence" definition of the word. Some people who think we are a collection of molecules find that fact amazing and worthy of reverence.

I have always thought that people who look at the metaphysical world through only the eyes of one religion are missing the really interesting totality of the human mystical capability- well no one can know the totality, but one can try to know more of it that just one perspective. If you get too locked into one belief it becomes difficult or impossible to appreciate the sacred and beautiful in other religions or metaphysical positions- imo.
