I use B&C, and find the discount worthwhile. Execution is solid at small size, there are zero frills on their web site (some may dislike this, but I consider it a feature), and you cannot beat $5/trade. Their price for limit orders isn't as good ($10), and options commissions are not the cheapest ($25 minimum; Dreyfus is cheaper).

My one real complaint is not the charge you dislike -- I've changed plenty of orders and never been hit with it -- but low interest on your credit balance. My solution is to keep my cash elsewhere.

However, $12-$5=$7; multiply by the number of market trades you made this year and decide whether the savings would be worth the hassle.
