Lucent: Strong and Clean Q4 Results
KEY POINTS

* Lucent reported strong fiscal Q4 results this morning with EPS of $0.31
beating our $0.29 estimate.

* Lucent posted $10.6 billion in revenue, easily exceeding our $10.3 billion
estimate while improving day sales outstanding, a metric of receivables, by
3-5 days.

* Revenue growth was driven by its System for Network Operators Segment, which

posted over 30% growth. While international growth of the operator segment
was nearly 60%, domestic growth was also strong at 20%

* Total revenue growth of 23% was balanced with 17% US growth and 38%
international growth.

* $0.01 of the upside in EPS can be attributed to a reversal of a prior
restructuring charge.

* The balance sheet improved as inventory declined sequentially increasing
turns to 4.5 from 3.7.

* Lucent reported over $1 billion of operating cash flow in the quarter ($0.35
per share).

* We believe this quarter's performance adequately addresses prevalent concerns
on Lucent. We expect Lucent Day (November 11th) and the outlook on today's
11 AM conference call (800-230-1092) to be positive.

* Price target of $100 implies 50x our 2001 EPS of $2.00. Lucent is NOT

guiding down forward estimates.

* We have attached a comparison table of Q3 results below.
