Actually, US government spokesmen have actually begun to speak up, Nikita. Check out recent statements by Strobe Talbott and Madeleine Albright, for example.

Of course, the Russian reaction has been to 1) criticize the Americans for hypocrisy (NATO & Kosovo), and 2) to step up the offensive.
