KINGSTON ANNOUNCES RIMM MODULES FOR THE NEW INTEL OR840 WORKSTATION MOTHERBOARD Date: 10/25 16:06 EST FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Oct 25, 1999 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Demonstrating continued support for the Rambus(R) memory solutions, Kingston Technology Company today announced availability of one of the first families of RIMM(TM) modules compatible with the OR 840 workstation motherboard announced today by Intel Corporation. The RIMM modules will be available in rated speeds of 600MHz and 800MHz in capacities ranging from 64 megabytes (MB) to 256MB. (Please see Table 1 attached at end for part numbers.) (Photo: newscom.com ) The Intel(R) OR840 workstation board features support for dual Pentium(R) III processors and includes a two-channel Rambus memory system that provides the highest effective memory bandwidth available today -- two to three times the memory bandwidth of today's comparable PC100 SDRAM-based systems. When fully populated (two RIMM modules per channel) with Kingston's new RIMM modules, it can support up to 1 Gigabyte (GB) of high-performance memory. Kingston was first in the memory enhancement industry to start manufacturing, testing, and shipping validated Rambus modules in March 1998, and today has shipped more than 10,000 RIMM modules to OEMs and other customers. Kingston offers an industry-leading selection of validated RIMM modules, and is in production of the RIMM modules compatible with Intel's OR840 workstation motherboard. "Kingston has made a significant contribution to the production ramp of Rambus memory solutions by establishing Rambus Validation Labs in the U.S. and Taiwan earlier this year," said Laura Fleming, Director, Alliances & Infrastructure, Computer Products Division, Rambus Inc. "Kingston's participation in the Rambus program has enabled major semiconductor and PCB manufacturers to verify RDRAM devices and RIMM and Continuity RIMM modules." "Intel is very appreciative of the efforts Kingston has taken to develop and ramp its production of RDRAM memory modules. We look forward to their support of our customers building systems with the OR840 workstation board and dual Pentium III processors," said Jim Yasso, General Manager, Reseller Products Division, Intel Corporation. Kingston Technology Company maintains approved Rambus Validation Labs in Fountain Valley, California, U.S.A. and in Hsinchu, Taiwan. In conjunction with Rambus Inc., Kingston's Rambus Validation Labs offer the following types of validation services: RDRAM validation; and RIMM and Continuity RIMM Module Validation. Rambus Inc. defined standardized procedures to verify component compliance to the Rambus specifications. The independent validation labs use these procedures to verify compliance to specifications, and have enabled the DRAM and memory module industry to support high-volume manufacturing of RIMM modules in time for the PC shipments of RDRAM-equipped systems that are beginning now. Kingston Technology has been working with Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) and Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq: RMBS) since March 1998 to develop expertise in RIMM module manufacturing and testing. As the leading independent manufacturer of memory modules, Kingston made an early and strategic decision to commit major resources to support next-generation memory technologies like Rambus' technology. Kingston has not only invested tens of millions in new manufacturing lines and high-end Hewlett-Packard(R) and Advantest(R) testers, but has also dedicated senior engineers to oversee all aspects of its Rambus program. "Our semiconductor and PC OEM partners requested Kingston to provide Rambus memory validation and manufacturing support worldwide, and our dual labs and manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Taiwan complement their internal capabilities and help them achieve faster-time-to-market with next-generation products," said Liesl Schwoebel, memory product manager, Kingston. Kingston recently updated its online Ultimate Memory Guide to include an extensive overview of Rambus technology, the benefits of RDRAM, and an easy-to-understand guide to RIMM and Continuity modules. The Ultimate Memory Guide can be found on Kingston's website at kingston.com .
