Does anyone have any thoughts on the lack of marketing BVSN does in the magazines?

Interesting you should bring this up today David. I happened to be attending a data warehousing conference this morning that is being held in conjunction with a CRM conference, and the two shows are sharing the expo floor. BVSN has a booth, but I've seen PTA bake sale booths that looked like they had more money and energy invested in them. By contrast, Siebel has a very large, flashing booth in the center of the expo floor.

Broadvision decided that it wants to sacrifice name recognition and its early leader status to try to get the extra penny of earnings in Q3 & Q499. They think all these other companies have the wrong strategy by not going for 1999 earnings. Pehong was actually heard recently saying at an investment conference: 'We want near-term profits, even if it means we give up some market share. If we destroy shareholder value, so be it, 1999 is Broadvisions year for earnings. By 2004, we will be toast by Microsoft or somebody else anyway. My top salesman is making more than I am and I am jealous, I am cutting commissions and hereby announcing a hiring freeze until next year. We have to get our earnings up. We might be able to do 30% operating margins if we really make some cutbacks. Broadvision is now officially a margin story. My name is Pehong and I am the CEO. Over.'
