<The 733/840 workstations first shipments are 2-3 month away> Makes the CuMine launch worse than the June Athlon "launch," and all of Intel's benchmarks on the 733 meaningless, since Dell also says the i840 servers are "future products."

I'm looking forward to comparisons between IBM's VIA-chipset systems using PIII-733EB and AMD Athlon 700 by an independent testing lab.

Kap - RE: "I called IBM. The 733/840 workstations first shipments are 2-3 month away."

That is LONGER than the time it took the Athlon to become available from IBM's initial announcement!

This platform isn't a dog, so the demand is sure to be there. Which means either there are limited quantities of the i840 or 733. And we have read rumors about the 733...

Kap,

<I called IBM. The 733/840 workstations first shipments are 2-3 month away.>

Thanks for checking. So, I guess unless someother OEM beats those projections, we have benchmarks of a system that wont ship for a while.

As I was saying a while back, we gotto compare products that are available in the channel. And, my recollection is that a while back Intel longs used to agree with that philosophy...
