There are basically 3 companies I know of in the rapid prototyping business...TDSC (the biggest?), SSYS and DTM(or something)... Anyway, I'm somewhat familiar with TDSC (popped the other day a bit) and SSYS. They were both high flyers a couple years ago...then the glory of being able to make parts directly from a 3D 'puter model wore off... Sounds like SSYS is doing some innovative things and is continuing to expand their products... "Mr. Crump continued, "Two of the primary reasons for our very strong third quarter were continued expansion into the automobile industry by our Quantum System sales and the highly successful introduction of our new FDM3000 Benchtop Rapid Prototyping System. The system allows users to prototype their new products in real ABS Plastic material, then automatically wash away the fixture supports. This process significantly improves model surface quality, and reduces labor costs and model completion time, making it easier to use. This represents a major technological breakthrough in the Rapid Prototyping industry." It sounds like they are putting out 'production' equipment...significant development... The reasons I like the stock are: 1. BV higher than share price 2. as of today...turnaround earnings 3. 4 million float 1/2 million short 4. comatose...flat line 5. continue to innovate their products (stayed in the game) 6. continue to develop new materials (metal is in the works) Once the shorts wake up and realize they owe shares in the wrong company, things could get interesting...another great quarter from SSYS at the end of the year, and I think there will be some real interest. I expect it could develop a significant run... "Mr. Crump concluded, "1999 is shaping up to be one of our most successful years and, we believe, we are well positioned to enter the millennium with continued strong growth and a momentum unparalleled in our history." May be one to put on the shelve for a while... SR
