Haim, i agree that the upgrade cycle may run into a slowdown here...for the very reasons you mention. in any case, if the 'nuclear winter' theory proposed by Hickey comes to pass, the stock market should soon begin to reflect it. hype and hope can only go so far. however, there is no conclusive proof yet that the theory is correct, only scattered evidence. but the lockdown on tech spending will undoubtedly be felt.
the effect of Y2K is unfortunately very difficult to assess...we can at best make educated guesses about it. a recent BIS study seems to support Dr. Yardeni's contention that Y2K preparedness is way below the comfort level and that the negative effects on the global economy could be quite grave.

regards,

hb

Haim,

In response to your computer upgrade. I was using a p166 32 meg ram; 1.6 gig H.D. and a 15" monitor. This year I purchased a 400 celeron (running at 500 now) 21" monitor, 18 gig H.D. and 128 megs of ram. So far this has been the best investment I have made. When I run scans in quotes plus they are lighting fast compared to my old computer; I can see a chart more clearly now. I multi-task like crazy; although I still cant figure out why netscape crashes all the time. Did it on old computer too. I would hate to go back to a slow computer with a small monitor. Seeing a big chart of something helps me get the big picture of whats going on. And I figure the time I save with the speed of the computer and size of the monitor helps will allow me to spend time doing better things then waiting for a computer to finish it's task etc ...
