I'm thinking the other poster is correct. The $900 mil would be is taken out BEFORE earnings of .05. As stated by someone here....that makes an estimate next year of $2.30 in earnings completely tangible.
AND makes this one of the most solidly undervalued stocks to own....
But I've been wrong before.
Either way, the earnings are (at worst) .05 BEFORE one time charges. That's a damn sight better than some people here would've expected.

Captain,

We have talked about this before <gggg>, but keep in mind that IBM was a bit less than twice CPQ's size in the early 1990's, and when Gerstner 'cleaned the plate' they took an 8 Billion dollar charge in one shot. Wall Street did not flinch at that one, so I doubt they will flinch at this much smaller one. Should be an interesting week either way.
