PB,

<I would have thought he could have clued you in to the cache and memory enhancements, but apparently he either wasn't aware of them, just did not share them to you, or underestimated their impact on performance. >

Actually the underestimation of CuMine performance was from me and not my source. I was told the performance improvements are good but it took me until the days before Microprocessor forum to realize how much improvement was there with the cache. Because I erred in estimating how much improvement could be had, I never pressed on any of my sources to reveal performance details - retrospectively, I should have asked more questions. I thought I was pretty good at estimating microarchtiectures and I didn't need any help - well, clearly, I did not know enough.

Chuck

PB,

<Don't believe .18 for AMD will provide magical performance pop. >

Forgot to ask you a few questions on the above statement the first time around.

Why do you say that AMD's 0.18 will not provide a performance pop?

Intel has already gotten a ~12% jump in MHz going from 0.25 to 0.18, even after the voltage adjustment (2.05 to 1.65?). What kind of pop do you estimate AMD to get? Yes, AMD uses a hybrid process but they also do not take a voltage penalty (i,e., for all you know they may be moving from 1.6 to 1.6).

Please feel free to throw in as much detail as you can - I can definitely use some education on the process side.

Chuck

P.S.: Any other process folks please feel free to chip in with your opinions.
