<so Pomp, what is your take on lack of Pop in Rambus today> Actually, and I know some of you will laugh at me, I don't think Rambus is a "hype" stock. (stop snickering, Don). By this I mean that among its core buyers, sellers and watchers, its story and potential are pretty well understood. You either like it or you don't. Or, you change your opinion from time to time and buy in or sell out as the mood changes. So, I was happy in a perverse way to see Rambus settle back yesterday after a huge two day run from 62 to 79. The impending shipment of the 840 was building momentum on Thursday and Friday. That news was built into the stock by Friday afternoon and some profit taking before the weekend (and with a general tech backoff) was not unusual....and healthy. Monday was classic sell on the news. Good for the traders who make a nice gain in a few days. Nothing surprising to me in any of this. Now, we need the analysts to crunch the numbers based on the HP, Dell, Compaq, IBM rollout data, add in Sony status, and SUNW potential, and give some new numbers. Maybe up, maybe the same...whatever. That will be the next step in getting the Rambus move into the eighties rolling. JMHO. p.s. More on the idea of Rambus not being a "hype" stock. By this I mean a stock with no discernable story and only a remote chance of controlling its marketplace. I would put as number of Internet stocks in this catagory - they move on speculation alone. I think Rambus brings much more to the party than that. Of course, we can argue endlessly about whether it deserves its price right now, but we all know the arguments pro and con, and they are solid arguments. Thus, no "hype".
