Morissette unplugs MP3

By MARC POLLACK

The Hollywood Reporter

LOS ANGELES - Alanis Morissette, who helped give credibility to MP3.com Inc. through a sponsorship deal with the Internet music company, will not use the format promoted by the company in the Internet marketing for her latest album, to hit stores Nov. 23.

Instead, Morissette's record company, Maverick Recording Co., will make available via the Internet a track recorded for Morissette's new album, ''Unplugged.''

The song will be available for downloading in early November using Liquid Audio or Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Media software to consumers who pre-order the album or buy one of Morissette's earlier albums or home videos online, the company said.

Beginning immediately, Maverick will offer a full-length streaming audio preview of Morissette's song ''Uninvited'' to online retail, music, lifestyle and radio station Web sites.

In addition, ''Thank U'' - a track from the ''Unplugged'' session but not included on the CD - will be available as a full-length secure download exclusively to consumers who buy other Morissette products.
