CANADA'S BARRICK MUM ON WHETHER BIDDING FOR ASHANTI GOLD MINE New York--Oct 25--Canada's Barrick Gold Corp. would not comment today on reports it has made a bid for Ashanti Goldfields Co.'s promising Geita mine in Tanzania. Reports say both Barrick and Anglogold Ltd have made competing bids of about $450 million each for Geita. A Barrick spokesman said that the firm would have made an announcement if it reached an agreement to buy the asset.
