REY MORENO Selects Award Winning Newbridge Broadband
Wireless Solution for Colombia's First LMDS Network

OCTOBER 26, 1999

HERNDON, VIRGINIA--BOGOTA, COLOMBIA--REY MORENO Expands Service
Offerings, Delivering Next Generation Voice and Data Services to
Global Corporations Operating in Colombia

Broadband wireless industry leader Newbridge Networks (NYSE: NN;
TSE: NNC) today announced that REY MORENO S.A. has selected the
award winning Newbridge(r) broadband wireless solution for
Colombia's first local multipoint distribution service (LMDS)
network. REY MORENO is a Colombian telecommunications service
provider associated with Telef¢nica Data and a longstanding
Newbridge customer. Initially deployed in Bogot , the network will
expand to include four of Colombia's largest cities: Medell¡n,
Cali, Barranquilla and Bucaramanga.

LMDS is a high capacity broadband wireless system licensed for the
delivery of data, Internet, voice, video and multimedia services.
REY MORENO will be using spectrum in the 38 GHz frequency band.
The Newbridge LMDS solution enables REY MORENO to expand its
service offerings and deliver a broad range of next generation
voice and data services to its customers using a high capacity
statistically multiplexed point-to-multipoint distribution system
for maximum spectral efficiency. REY MORENO's customers comprise
more than 100 multinational corporations, the largest of which
include British Petroleum (BP Amoco), Philips and SITA, the
world's leading provider of telecommunications and information
solutions for the airline industry, serving more than two billion
air travelers each year. The services REY MORENO will deliver to
its customers include Internet protocol (IP), voice over frame
relay, broadcast quality videoconferencing and premium quality
IP-VPNs (virtual private networks).

"Having worked with Newbridge Networks for many years, we trusted
the Company would design an innovative networking solution that
would enable us to distance ourselves from the competition and
offer next generation voice and data services over a fully managed
multiservice platform," said Ernesto Rey, president, REY MORENO,
S.A.. "Not only is Newbridge delivering best-in-class LMDS
technology, it is providing unmatched network and service
management capabilities."

The comprehensive Newbridge broadband wireless solution for LMDS
is a multiservice network comprising base station and customer
premise equipment. A base station, consisting of the industry
leading MainStreetXpress(tm) 36170 Multiservices Switch, along
with point-to-multipoint transmitters and receivers, is the
central location that collects all traffic to and from customers
within a given wireless coverage area. It is also the linking
point between the customer and the network backbone. Customer
premise equipment includes transceivers and network interface
units (NIUs), which support a full range of services. The
MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager manages both the wireless
and wireline portions of the REY MORENO network, providing
billing, statistics and maintenance support. The solution uses
high capacity time division multiple access (TDMA) technology to
enable service providers to effectively share bandwidth among
several users, promoting efficient use of spectrum and enabling
service providers to cost-effectively address a large variety of
customer requirements. TDMA is optimal for both variable rate
connections - where potentially hundreds of Ethernet or other
bursty traffic users can share bandwidth at wire speeds - and
fixed data rate connections. Frequency division multiple access
(FDMA) is also supported by the Newbridge LMDS solution to provide
end users with dedicated high bandwidth connections.

The Newbridge LMDS solution received the 1999 International
Engineering Consortium (IEC) InfoVision Award in the wireless
category. The Newbridge solution was selected based on its
versatility, uniqueness, market impact, customer benefits and
value to society. The Newbridge asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)
Radio Interface Card (ARIC), an integral component of the new LMDS
solution, received the 1998 IEC InfoVision Award. The solution has
also been recognized with the Data Communications magazine Hot
Product Award.

A pioneer in the LMDS market, the Newbridge broadband wireless
solution has been selected for deployment by 19 LMDS customers in
the United States, Canada, South America, Asia and Europe, with a
further 14 customers currently conducting field trials of the
technology. Newbridge is also actively engaged in discussions with
customers that represent 63 additional network deployments.

"REY MORENO's decision to select the Newbridge LMDS solution
reaffirms our leadership position in the broadband wireless market
worldwide," said Giulio Gianturco, executive vice president and
general manager of North and South America, Newbridge Networks.
"Today's announcement is the first phase of REY MORENO's extensive
network expansion. The flexibility and high scalability of our
solution will provide us with ample opportunity to work with REY
MORENO moving forward, evolving and expanding the network quickly
and easily to meet the evolving needs of its customers."
