Agreed re western troops unwillingness to continue the fight. They wanted to go home once they got rid of Japan. Also in a democracy it is very difficult to get the populous behind a war until the enemy had been sufficiently demonized. We had spent much of the war on the idea of Stalin being a friendly Uncle Joe. It would have been difficult to get a war weary democracy to switch gears and fight an ally.

One disagreement, the Soviets were not working on the A-bomb when the war in Europe ended. They weren't even aware of it until we bombed Japan.
