Telecom '99 news on Inmarsat, Skybridge and G*

Millennial angst seems to be boosting sales of satellite company Inmarsat's laptop-sized
terminal, the Mini-M. Officials from Comsat, one of a number of Inmarsat service providers
carrying the device, believe a spurt in the last two months - taking total sales to over 50,000
- is the result of fears over the durability of telecoms networks should the Millennium Bug
strike as hard as some fear.

"It's broadband, it's a completely different animal and it has never been put in question"
Despite the troubles plaguing the narrowband LEO mobile satellite systems, Alcatel chief
executive Serge Tchuruk is upbeat about the prospects for his company's SkyBridge
project.

"Maybe you should talk less"
Globalstar acting chief executive Anthony Navarra addresses a delegate on the subject of
avoiding cancer from mobile phones.
