Talk.com offers services in local calling market
RESTON, Va., Oct 26 (Reuters) - Talk.com Inc. (NasdaqNM:TALK - news) said on Tuesday it would begin providing its online telecommunications services in the local calling market, undercutting the Baby Bells and specifically targeting small and mid-sized businesses nationwide.

Talk.com said it will charge lower rates than those charged by the four regional Bell operators -- U S West Inc., (NYSE:USW - news) SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE:SBC - news) BellSouth Corp. (NYSE:BLS - news) and Bell Atlantic Corp. (NYSE:BEL - news)

The company, which used to be known as Telesave.com, will lease local lines for resale, targeting a market of a total of some 10 million businesses and organizations across the U.S.

The company plans to market its new local calling services by including them with its existing long distance telecom offerings.

Talk.com's initial offering of local calling services includes 15 major U.S, markets, starting with Atlanta in October 1999 and then the cities of Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, Seattle, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Hartford, Nashville, Charlotte, Salt Lake City, Houston, Omaha, Chattanooga and Knoxville.
