<<KThe 80% in value is paper equity to MRV's bottom line???>>
no, it would only go to the bottom line when/if they sell the shares. that's how PART of the initial 20% would go to the bottom line as a one time gain.
it would just be held on the balance sheets as a separate division which would have separate accounting. 80% of the earnings would flow through to the bottom line of MRVC. this only applies if greater than 50% ownership (in other words, this isn't the case with NAC).
understand?

i would think MRV would almost HAVE to do an IPO instead of just spinning the shares off to their shareholders. they won't be able to get nearly the same market valuation, nor would they get any cash if they were to just spin it off to shareholders. yes, a combination would be nice.
