re: Voice over IP on Cable Systems: CMTS interaction with VoIP

For Anyone interested in the above topic, Denver Techie has provided a rather lucid description as to how it will work, in a great many instances, at:

The Cook Report will soon publish some additional material on this topic which I hope to digest and summarize here, soon. Much of the work covered by Cook, and much of the pioneering, I might add, in this space, is being done in Canada, where the "openNet" initiatives have been just as challenging for the cable cos as they have been here in the states. If not more so, due to the regulations in place there. In some of the VoIP venues taking place in CA, there are approaches which differ from those which were highlighted in DT's post, above. Stay tuned.

Frank,

I've heard you mention Akamai on this board a little, so thought I would pose a question to you re: their caching technology. Does their technology deal strictly with static web content or would it work for dynamic content as well??? It would seem to me that demand overload would be more of a problem with dynamic info ie: stock quotes, etc. versus static info...???

Or>>>is that the answer>> by freeing up the static content demands, dynamic demand automatically benefits??

May have a chance for some IPO shares which I will definitely jump on, but am wondering whether this should be a long term hold.

Thanks,

ljm
