re: VoIP and CMTS interaction

Denver Techie, that was superb, and puts a lot of issues to rest for the moment.

"That is, if you believe that VoIP on cable is a viable platform for the future. And I think we do."

If the 'we' in your last statement was an implied question as to whether or not I am a believer, then the answer is yes, indeed.

The nice thing about your description is that it puts to rest one of the questions concerning whether or not VoIP on cable will be a true Internet application, or simply a means of emulating the PSTN through gateways, servers and standard forms of directory lookups. The one thing that you might also want to mention is the dependency of the CableVoIP system on local subscriber database records. Then you can get into local number portability, E911, etc., but we don't want to overdo it at this point.

Your reply is worthy of framing, DT. Hope you don't mind my reposting it elsewhere (VoIP board, and the FCTF).

Thanks, Frank Coluccio

This architecture is one I have seen proposed by cable groups a lot. What role does the CMTS play in the QOS issues? What about CMTS role in the open cable issues? I would like to get your opinion.
