That is a great article.

But he was also a leadoff hitter who did not have a high on-base percentage. He was without power.

Great point. Aside from his dubious character, Pete Rose was an overrated ballplayer.

I'll never forget the night his 44 game hitting streak ended. In the locker room, he was complaining to reporters that Braves relievers were pitching to him like "it was the World Series". He apparently wanted the Braves to concede him a hit so that he could get his name in the record books. The incredible thing about it is that Rose is the one who destroyed Ray Fosse's career by running him over in an exhibition game.
