FC_Fan,

<<I did indeed see your original post and opted to pass on responding to you (hence the no response). Since you have seen fit to reask the question I will tell you expressly that I am not interested in responding.. ok?>>

Certainly. Obviously I was hoping for a response, but I'm sure you have your reasons for not wanting to answer.

<<Your post is innocent enough in origin but you architect your question in order to force a response to put someone into the non-disinterested audience category, unless they validate YOUR hypothesis (or your experience whichever) that only disinterested engineers use all products in a product category.. >>

Here's the issue: it is very difficult for somebody not in the industry to make an assessment of the players. About the best somebody like me can do is make an assessment of the people who assess the players. There is very little discussion on SI or other posting boards about the technical merits of the Brocade design. I don't remember any discussion on this thread in the 200 posts since your last post in August.

My query to you in August was prompted by the technical slant of your posts. Since I am interested in knowing the relative merits of Ancor's and Brocade's switches, your posts interested me. From the OEM announcements released by both companies, we know that some people have preferred Ancor switches and some have preferred Brocade switches. I am inferring that technical evaluations have played a non-trivial part in these decisions. If I had easy access to these groups, such as you provided to me and others by posting on SI, I would have asked them similar questions.

If I am interested in buying a power tool, bottle of wine, or a high-precision measuring instrument and I ask someone I presume to be an expert for a recommendation, I expect to receive the answer "it depends". Must it be cordless? Will you be drinking it soon? How frequently will you be recalibrating it and to what standard?

When I get an unequivocal answer (such as yours) I'm intrigued. Why does this person feel strongly? How does this opinion compare to others I've received? Do they seem equally credible? Short of buying all of the samples and educating myself to the point where I can make an informed decision, the best I can do is to assess the assessor.

<<Do you have a technical FC issue you would like to discuss relative to either switch or another switch? We can discuss that and then YOU can determine when you would want to use one switch, and when you would want to use another..>>

I wish I did. That's the kicker. I was hoping you would provide the issue as a means to educate me and possibly others.

<<I can actually say that I AM disinterested in this discussion (does that count..?). >>

I don't know what you are saying here. Are you telling me that you are in fact disinterested, that is unaffiliated with either Ancor or Brocade? Or are you telling me that you are UNinterested in having this discussion with me?

If I receive no response this time I'll assume it's the latter. I'm not interested in badgering you. I thought your postings from August were meant to engender responses from people like me, and that you had not visited SI since then.
