WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) will release results from its most recent semi-annual Wireless Industry Survey at noon Eastern on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

The survey, along with accompanying charts and graphs, may be found on WOW-COM, CTIA's home on the web: wow-com.com

(NOTE: To receive a copy of the survey electronically, e-mail Tiffany Ricci at Tricci(At)ctia.org.

The CTIA survey is the authoritative measure of growth and changes in the U.S. wireless industry. With reporting from more than 90 percent of all commercial wireless operating systems, the survey measures actual numbers of wireless phone subscribers, employees directly involved in the industry, the industry's capital investments, service revenues, roaming revenues and the average local monthly bill paid by consumers for wireless service.

CTIA will report that for the first six months of 1999, the number of wireless phone subscribers in the United States grew to 76.3 million people.

Commercial wireless service was first offered in the United States in October, 1983. The CTIA Semi-annual Wireless Industry Survey was initiated in 1985. The survey results that will be released on Wednesday track industry growth through mid-year 1999.
