security concern is on the other side of the dslam.
Actually the primary security concern is from the net itself. The single biggest risk is when there is a static IP address. This can happen (or not) with either DSL or cable.

Physical hacking into someone elses wires takes quite a lot of effort, reserved only for the extremely hardcore. If you were hardcore you could tap into someones phone line nearly as easily.
