Curious if anyone with technical prowess knows if ATHM is under accumulation? It seems logical that at these levels again, in light of all the real progress being made by the company, quietly stocking the warehouse makes good business sense to larger firms and deeper pockets.

Glad to see a little bruising for the DSL team from their very own paying fans. Also great to see their explanation for the problems (the civvies beloved countless locals) lending munitions for the court hearings that will favor non-government regulation and locals leaving a 'hands-off' approach intact. Coming from the DSL camp makes it even sweeter. I wonder if Steve Case is accumulating ATHM in his private account? Now that would make sense. ;-)

Be strong in ATHM and prosper in time.

<!>"DSL is a horrible product," <!>

thats getting carried away.

DSL does take a long time to get installed (clecs take about 3-6 weeks). The whole process is a headache and could run to a lot of problems (i.e. downgrade issues). But once the customer is installed the customer is very happy with the service.

DSL will win the business accounts. PERIOD.

as far as home, there will be a nice battle.

That's a funny post...I wonder who started the DSL is garbage quote? I've been using DSL for 6 months now...I love it, no problems...If I'd have to wait for my cable company to introduce cable modems, I might've died without having known how great broadband really is...I own ATHM stock and believe in the company, but I hate how slow most cable companies have been in rolling out broadband...If only they realized alot of people care more about the internet than having their MTV, maybe we would see sustained growth in cable internet access, instead of the gradual introduction we've had to endure so far.

troubles in DSL land?

yahoo.cnet.com

While CATV is getting dinged for slow service rate at least the problem will be fixed once the 2 way installs and DOCSIS installation is completed. IMHO the problem with DSL installs will be on-going because of the technical nature of Bell plant. Firstly they are resource limited because only in house union labor can work on their poles and wires. Secondly, because their plant is copper in nature and copper was built with bridge taps and load coils, the number of truck rolls to do a service installation will not diminish significantly over time. Cutting bridge taps [which butchers their plant and detracts from future use] is very slow. As one previous poster stated, the installation of a DSL link is similar to the installation of a T-1 line which hasn't increased in speed at least in my service area.

OT: DSL Hell

Eric, you're not kidding. My Pac Bell DSL is a pig and crashes my Mac all the time. Never had a problem (except speed, of course) with dial-up. If the SF board of supes could ever get off their political butts and get ATHM into the city, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

As for the company, I wish they'd be a broadband company and get out of content altogether. Sell Excite, lose the CEO, and farm off the greeting cards while they're at it.
