Citrix Expands Product Line with VideoFrame HOW BIG IS THIS?
Answers Corporate Demand for Mission-Critical Streaming Video Deployment
First Union Bank Piloting VideoFrame 1.0
Ideal for Server-based Delivery of Video and Audio Applications Over Intranets
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1999-- Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS - news) today introduced VideoFrame(TM) 1.0, the first streaming video and audio server product to be tightly integrated with server-based computing applications. VideoFrame allows mission-critical video and audio applications to be quickly deployed within a corporation, and can support branch office growth and global expansion.

Companies can use VideoFrame to disseminate information such as sales presentations, on-demand training, education, company messaging, and seminars. Employees can access the video applications immediately on demand. Administrators can centrally manage multiple VideoFrame servers, media streams and published content across the enterprise - all from a single point. VideoFrame, designed to complement MetaFrame 1.8 environments, is integrated with Citrix Program Neighborhood to allow video content to be sent to users with the same speed, reliability and ease as other server-based published applications, providing the most flexible means of video deployment across the enterprise.

''As Citrix aggressively expands its product portfolio, video and audio applications will play a growing role in our server-based business strategy,'' said Mark Templeton, president and CEO of Citrix. ''VideoFrame also offers advantages for application service providers (ASPs) who want to deploy video applications. Traditionally, many organizations have been reluctant to use video because of concerns around bandwidth usage versus quality of content, and the difficulty in managing deployment of the content itself. VideoFrame will provide organizations such as ASPs with the means to tackle these issues.''

''With the addition of VideoFrame to the MetaFrame lineup, we have extended the core benefits of rapid application deployment, centralized management and predictable delivery to video services,'' said Edward Iacobucci, chairman and founder of Citrix. ''The VideoFrame adaptive bandwidth technology, coupled with centralized bandwidth management and budgeting will, for the first time, allow organizations to manage the publication and delivery of video content as easily as they manage applications -- to any user on any network.''

''It's clear that video and audio increasingly will be used as strategic tools within corporate environments,'' said Matt Cain, vice president of workgroup computing strategies at META Group, a market research firm. ''The corporate adoption rate of streaming media is still at an early stage, which represents a big opportunity to position video solutions for organizations using server-based computing. Currently, many organizations exchange large amounts of 'written' data through the LAN, WAN or Internet. The next few years will see the demand grow for distribution of audio and video data through the same channels.''

First Union Employees to ''Work at Home'' with VideoFrame

First Union, the nation's sixth largest bank holding company and eighth largest brokerage, is currently piloting a VideoFrame implementation that - as an enhancement to the MetaFrame system -- ultimately will enable employees to work from home instead of commuting to offices. First Union also uses Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 with Program Neighborhood(TM) as its server-based platform for remote access to mission-critical applications.

''VideoFrame will give First Union a solution to a problem we faced in implementing our Alternative Workplace initiative - easy access from home to our archive of video-based just-in-time training and corporate communications,'' said Dave Whomsley, systems technology officer at First Union. ''Home-based workers need to feel connected to the corporate culture, and we've found video to be the richest and most effective communications medium. VideoFrame's ability to deliver streamed video over a variety of connections will help First Union enrich the work-at-home experience.''

About VideoFrame

VideoFrame is a separate platform that complements Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 and WinFrame 1.8 environments. Each VideoFrame 1.0 server runs on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (workstation or server). VideoFrame uses efficient Citrix Video CODEC (coder-decoder) and ICA® Streaming Channel technologies to provide high-clarity, full-motion video as well as audio. In addition, the Citrix Video CODEC can be used with third-party, non-linear editors and other content creation tools. Since VideoFrame dynamically scales video streams according to available bandwidth, modem users and LAN-based users working over the narrowest connections can access the same content and enjoy a high-quality video experience.

Streamed video applications are pushed directly to the desktop where they can be automatically removed when the content becomes outdated. Since videos are streamed to the client - on demand - from a central server, there is no need for large client hard disks or version maintenance over a widely dispersed client base. Published videos can appear as desktop icons, start menu entries or Program Neighborhood entries. During video play, client features include choices such as play/pause, random access navigation, zoom and re-size.

Availability

VideoFrame 1.0 is available now and can be purchased through the members of the Citrix Solutions Network. All purchasers of VideoFrame 1.0 will receive a VideoFrame 2.0 Subscription Advantage at no additional charge to give early adoptors the benefit of future improvements. Suggested Retail Price: $3995.00 (U.S.) for a 200 concurrent stream license. While initially targeted to 32-bit Windows®-based client environments, VideoFrame will soon be available on multiple client platforms. This will give organizations the ability to deploy audio and video content within heterogeneous computing environments.

About MetaFrame and Program Neighborhood

Citrix MetaFrame server-based computing software is transforming the way organizations deploy, manage and access business applications across the extended enterprise -- regardless of client hardware, operating platform, network connection or available bandwidth -- providing improved application manageability, access, performance and security. MetaFrame software works in conjunction with Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition to deliver a comprehensive server-based computing solution for the entire enterprise, including support for heterogeneous computing environments, enterprise-scale management and seamless desktop integration. Program Neighborhood provides for complete administrative control over application access and delivers an even greater level of seamless desktop integration. Icons for server-based applications can now be pushed to the Program Neighborhood client, integrated into the local 32-bit Windows desktop, or pushed directly to the client's Start menu. Users have an enhanced server-based application experience and required client configuration is kept at a minimum.

"Look beyond the disagreements by insgy/ ctxs."

Bill,
What disagreements are you referring to? I thought CTXS/INSGY had a clean deal earlier this year. I didn't know anything had cropped up since. Can you fill us in?
