JOHN,
After studying Harolds Dr Dewpoint page, plus all the related data I can get my hands on over the last few hours, I believe this winter cold/hot wet/dry impact on the nations heartland, mid Atlantic and Northeast will depend on the North Atlantic Oscillation, all other factors being as Dr Dewpoint described.
See my next post addressed to Harold S., out of respect for that worthy URL he gave us and which sent me on this merry chase.

re: La Nina...

>>>... Warmer southern half of US (didn't say drier)... <<<

they shown that show last nite too ... the warmer southern 1/2 of US is NOT really the southern states but includes the southern greatlakes (little north of chicago n detroit area) all the way to middle states and part of new england (boston area)... in other words practically more than 2/3 the population of U.S.. and it means less heating oil n gas usage and hopefully cheaper gasoline too for us "consumers" and poor people from other 3rd world countries who are trying to survive w/ this latest oil surge based on greed... thank you lord ....
