ELECTRICAL WORKERS ACCEPT 30% PAY RISES

Electrical contract workers around the country are to receive a pay rise of up to 30% over two years, their union has announced.

The Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union (AEEU) said its membership of electrical contract workers had voted to accept the settlement, which boosts basic earnings by up to œ70 a week.

Union officials hope the deal will end electricians' wildcat strikes which have plagued high-profile projects such as the Jubilee Line extension and Millennium Dome.
