FIC, Yamada Denki to Sell PC for Daiwa's Online Trading

October 26, 1999 (TOKYO) -- FIC Sales Corp. and Yamada Denki Co., Ltd. are offering a low-cost PC to those who will use Daiwa Direct, an online trading service of Daiwa Securities Co., Ltd.

The PC model, called CTO ONL 898, is distributed by FIC Sales and went on sale on Oct. 24 at Yamada Denki outlets. Yamada Denki has 116 retail stores throughout Japan, but the computer will be available only at the 32 stores with seminar rooms.

FIC Sales is the Japanese subsidiary of Taiwan's First International Computer, Inc., and it handles sales to the consumer market. ...Cut...

The CTO ONL 898 computer features an AMD K6-2 400MHz microprocessor. It comes with 32MB of main memory (expandable to 768MB) standard, and is equipped with a 6.4GB hard drive, a 40x-speed CD-ROM drive, and a built-in 56kbps fax modem. The operating system is Windows 98. Word-processing and spreadsheet software is pre-installed, and a 15-in. CRT monitor is included. ...Cut...

Now hold it, Chuckles ... I was the one that brought up the poor
execution by Motorolo on everything from the 68040 to the G4.
Please remember ... This is where AMD is getting their next generation, or two.
