Hi Tim, welcome back!
It's not the same without your insights.
I could certainly do without wading thru all the extraneous stuff, can we just stick to stocks, etc. or just merely agree to keep things civil!!!
Regards, and happy trading
Susan

good morning... cs news...

Company Press Release
Perpetual Australia Selects Cabletron's SmartSwitch Router Gigabit Solutions
Perpetual Uses Layer 4 Solution to Handle High Volumes of Financial Transactions
ROCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1999-- Cabletron Systems (NYSE: CS - news) today announced that Perpetual, one of Australia's leading financial institutions, has chosen Cabletron Systems' SmartSwitch Router (SSR) Gigabit Ethernet technology to form the base platform for Perpetual's expanding network requirements.

Cabletron's SSR was selected to increase the bandwidth capacity in Perpetual's LAN, and to accommodate the company's diverse and growing business interests.

Mr. Peter Garrety, Perpetual's national technical services manager, said, ''Perpetual's business is growing rapidly and we've made a number of acquisitions recently. We needed to build local area networks that could not only handle the level of communication we currently require, but that could grow with us as we expand our business even further. We evaluated several networking vendors and chose Cabletron because its Layer 3 and 4 products were mature and their architecture best suited Perpetual's needs.''

Mr. Garrety also added, ''Cabletron's Gigabit Ethernet technology can easily be expanded to keep up with our growing LAN requirements.''

For Perpetual to keep up with the increasing bandwidth requirements, it has installed an SSR 8600 in each one of its buildings to provide Gigabit Ethernet to the buildings' floors. The company has also installed a SmartSwitch 6000 solution on each floor of each building with Ethernet/Fast Ethernet to every desktop.

Perpetual runs high availability trading and funds management applications across their network. In addition, Perpetual is a major Australian share registry service.

Perpetual manages back office processing for large retail share offerings over their network, including Australia's largest retail share offering to date the second tranche of Telstra shares. This recent offering involved processing forms from more than 1.6 million people, which were scanned and forwarded over the network. This challenging application relies on the SmartSwitch Router to deliver a bulletproof infrastructure, able to cope with large numbers of scanned documents every minute.

About Perpetual

One of Australia's most respected and recognized companies for over 115 years, Perpetual's services range from private, comprehensive financial management to the sophisticated trustee, custodial and administrative arrangements to the funds management, superannuation, property, infrastructure and capital markets. Perpetual currently administers over 80 billion dollars in funds across its divisions.
