Re: ""All AMD needs is to fill up their fabs with low margin Athlons for MSFT. Then they'll have very limited capacity for high margin products to pay off their debts! Brilliant strategy! Who but Jerry could think up such a devious plan?""

Sounds like sour grapes to me, Penang Paul. Of course, if Microsoft now releases these gaming consoles with Intel inside, you'll be crowing about it for days.

Funny thing is, it's Microsoft, not AMD, that's done the most damage to Intel over the last two years. That is only going to continue, but you're too stupid to realize it.

Kevin

Paul, A legend in your own mind. Funny when I look up bunnies on a search engine I do not see your name mentioned, if however I search dumb bunnies......well, your name pops to the front every time.
I suspect that MSFT is just in negotiations with both Intel and AMD and has not committed to anyone yet. However the clear superiority of the Athlon in such an application would make them a front runner at a premium to Intel parts that will not do as well in such an FP intensive role. By the time this part is needed there will be lots of fab space as Dresden is only 15% occupied, not to mention the extra capacity brought on by die shrinx. There is no Intel chip that will beat the Athlon in MSFTs application, even if you use a 733 coppermine and a 600 Athlon, the AThlon wins in FP....which is what MSFT needs.
