New Spyglass Prism 3.0 Integrated with
Inktomi Traffic Server(TM) Delivers Internet Content to Wireless Devices and Other Information Appliances Faster and More Efficiently WAP-Compliant Devices and Other Information
Appliances Will Benefit from New Content Transformation and
Delivery Platform

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- In conjunction with ISPCON, Spyglass Inc. (Nasdaq: SPYG - news) today announced the availability of server-based technology that allows Internet service providers, content providers and telephone and cable companies to more quickly and efficiently deliver Internet content primarily to wireless phones, handheld devices and set-top boxes. Spyglass Prism 3.0, expected to ship next month, is a structurally redesigned, third-generation version of the industry's first
Internet content transformation and delivery platform that delivers dynamically transformed HTML content to WAP-compliant devices and other information appliances.

The new Spyglass Prism adds carrier-class architecture to the customizable content delivery platform that dynamically converts Web content to enhance the performance of wireless devices and Internet appliances. Spyglass Prism increases the amount of content deliverable to WAP phones, PDAs, handheld devices and laptops and eliminates the cost of creating and supporting Internet content for different
devices.

The new release of Spyglass Prism can be distributed to run across multiple systems concurrently to offer wireless service providers increased scalability, reliability and fault-tolerance. Through the enhanced design, the server-based platform features a flexible architecture that integrates with the Inktomi Traffic Server network cache platform, and can be integrated with other Web servers and WAP gateways. The overall flexibility of Spyglass Prism allows for customized support for a variety of content delivery applications. Spyglass Prism can form the nucleus of an online service looking to create mobile portals
and enable delivery of wireless Internet or intranet content, or third-party applications, such as messaging, geo-location services, synchronization and personalized content delivery, to a variety of information appliances. Spyglass Professional Services can provide the strategic consulting, systems integration, custom application development and project management critical to rapidly deploying such services.

``Technologies which translate HTML to other languages will be important to gain market acceptance of content on wireless devices. This will ultimately drive end-user demand and satisfaction,' said Jane Zweig, executive vice president of Herschel Shosteck Associates, Ltd., an international telecommunications consultancy based in Wheaton, Md.

Spyglass Prism dynamically transforms HTML to address the unique challenges operators, wireless portals and content providers face in delivering Internet content to information appliances that vary in display capabilities, processing power and communications speed. Spyglass Prism instantly identifies the device which is making a request for data to be retrieved, and then extracts, compresses and transforms
the data and images to meet the specifications of the device for appropriately formatted display and delivery. Spyglass Prism also provides content and service providers with a powerful set of ready-to-use tools that enables them to customize their content according to delivery strategies that may contain a wide variety of preferences. For instance, the new Spyglass Prism can support WAP 1.1 specifications by automatically converting standard HTML into WML before delivering the content to a WAP-compliant
device. In addition, Spyglass Prism can be extended to deliver Web content, via short messages, voice and Internet protocols, while ensuring content is optimized for multiple devices, wireless or otherwise.

Inktomi Traffic Server is a network cache platform designed to reduce congestion over the Internet and to increase overall network performance. Traffic Server is a proven scalable platform deployed in the world's largest networks, including AOL and Excite@Home. By integrating Spyglass Prism with Traffic Server, service providers can further differentiate their service offerings by supporting a wide variety of Internet access devices while reducing network traffic and improving the quality of service for their
users. This integrated solution provides new opportunities for differentiation and increased revenue for service providers.

``In order to remain a competitive player in this information age, network operators will need to leverage
themselves as value-added service providers and offer their end users more options to meet their needs -- whether that be accessing online banking from a wireless, handheld device, or requesting directions to the nearest gas station from their cell phones via a geo- location application,' said Jack Armstrong, Spyglass vice president of mobile data services. ``Spyglass Prism on the Inktomi Traffic Server cache platform enables the delivery of these high-end applications. Service providers will have the ability to differentiate themselves from their competitors and grow their customer base by offering end users more
Internet-based services, quickly and efficiently delivered to any device.'

Spyglass Prism will be demonstrated at ISPCON in Inktomi's booth #1019, as well as at Wireless IT from November 2-3 in Santa Clara, Calif., in Lucent's Partner Pavilion #443.
