Rodin Communications Selects Newbridge Broadband Multiservice Solution for Voice and Data Network:
Business Wire - October 27, 1999 09:12
KANATA, ONTARIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1999--

Competitive Access Provider Links Education, Health
and Government Communities
Newbridge Networks (NYSE: NN; TSE: NNC) today announced that Rodin Communications, an integrated communications solution provider, has selected the Newbridge(r) broadband multiservice asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) platform to build a multiservice voice and data network. Rodin's customers - which include Internet service providers (ISPs), financial, educational and health institutions, the Government of Ontario, and large corporate customers - require high quality, reliable, secure, cost-effective communications solutions.

Based on the industry-leading MainStreetXpress(tm) 36170 Multiservices Switch, the network enables Rodin to offer its customers advanced services and applications including high speed links and Internet access, videoconferencing, frame relay, local area network (LAN) interconnection and virtual private networks (VPN) services.

"We're excited to have the support of Newbridge Networks to help us provide our customers with flexible, high quality solutions," said Loreto Saccucci, president, Rodin Communications. "We selected the Newbridge solution following a comprehensive competitive review process. The performance, manageability and support for value-added services provided by the MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices Switch is unmatched."

Rodin will also deploy the Newbridge digital subscriber line (DSL) product offering, which is based on the multiservice, multi-access MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices Switch. Unlike competitive xDSL offerings, which employ separate DSL line multiplexers and ATM switches, the Newbridge DSL solution represents an integrated offering with unparalleled scalability, manageability and support for value-added services. The MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager provides unified end-to-end management of DSL and other access technologies, as well as the broadband ATM network.

In addition to providing "last mile" connectivity through xDSL, Rodin offers customers direct access to global data networks and digital point-to-point service.

Rodin will also pioneer the first North American trial of symmetrical digital subscriber line (SDSL) service using the Newbridge SDSL offering. SDSL enables service providers to deliver cost effective broadband services. For example, the technology enables teleworkers and other small business customers working off site to link into their company's corporate head office.

The Rodin network is managed end-to-end by the powerful MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager, which has features such as point-and-click configuration, partitioning, and the ability to manage thousands of nodes and multiple technologies from a single site. Operators can remotely configure nodes, monitor real time operations, set up and manage path routes, perform diagnostics, and isolate and manage conditions that may affect the network's efficiency.

Established in 1989, Rodin is headquartered in Cambridge, Ontario, with offices in Toronto, London, Windsor, Mississauga, Kingston and Ottawa. The Company's mission is to help business move faster, increase efficiency and improve customer service through superior communications. Partnered with the world's top communications companies, product solutions include videoconferencing, mobile communications, wide area networks, voice communications and Internet/intranet systems.

Newbridge Networks designs, manufactures, markets and services wide area networking solutions for Internet service providers; local, long-distance, and wireless communications companies; cable television carriers; and corporate customers in more than 100 countries. The Company leverages its relationship with a growing family of Newbridge Affiliate companies and strategic alliances with numerous other networking companies to deliver complete, end-to-end solutions. Newbridge customers include the world's 350 largest telecommunications service providers and more than 10,000 corporations, government organizations and other institutions. Founded in 1986, the Company employs more than 6,000 people on six continents. News and information are available at www.newbridge.com.
