<<I also think Kumar and Niles will be re-trenching over the next few weeks. They clearly missed the boat on CPQ - Niles had predicted a "disaster" for CPQ and Kumar was sure that they would be under expectations. They tarred DELL with the same brush.

The IDC and dataquest numbers show that the industry slowdown did not happen. CPQ's numbers indicate that CPQ grew with the industry. Since everyone else is indicating at or below industry growth, DELL seems very likely to be the one leading in volume. I will be interested to see how those two "analysts" explain a sudden reversal in their opinions without admitting that they have no real idea of what will happen... >>

rudedog: Very interesting comments.....I tend to agree with you.....Unfortunately, DELL gets very little respect in this market. 1999 has been a difficult year for DELL shareholders vs. 1996-1998. My KIDE and SONO continue to set new highs. Yet, they are special situation stocks. KIDE is the pure play behind the kids Pokemon movement and SONO has launched a revolutionary new handheld ultrasound device. IMO, DELL will continue to test our patience. Folks actually do pay attention to Niles and Kumar....(even though next month they may have to change their outlook). They seem to be almost schizophrenic in the way they cover the box makers. H & Q is in that camp too. I guess that's why some of the ANALysts get paid BIG bucks <VBG>.

I still wouldn't bet against Michael Dell -- over the LONG term..!!

Best Regards,
