LG, PBS demonstrate digital data broadcasting
koreaherald.co.kr

LG Electronics successfully demonstrated the next-generation digital data
broadcasting via the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) of the United States on
Tuesday.

LG also showcased the technology advance, jointly developed by the two
companies, at an inaugural ceremony for Intel's data broadcasting center in Santa
Clara before officials from leading technology companies, such as Microsoft and
Phillips.

LG is the first company to demonstrate the Web-enhanced data broadcast
service, which allows viewers to access a wide variety of additional contents,
including news, stock information and weather forecast, while watching TV.

LG's data broadcasting system employs the specification required by the
Advanced Television Enhancement Forum (ATVEF), an alliance of U.S. broadcast
and cable networks, TV transports, consumer electronics and PC industries, to set
up a digital TV standard.

"The successful demonstration underlines LG's leadership position in digital
broadcasting technology," a company official said.

Some 200 people, including U.S. lawmakers and members of the broadcasting
industry, attended the demonstration.

LG said the company will continue to work with PBS to test various advanced
technologies on multiple platforms. (HJJ)
